TWO-WAY RADIOS |

|
System Features This type of radio system uses a central combiner and multiple connected repeaters along with a 500 foot tower / antenna system to offer totally private 2 way radio service over a large area. The nature of SMR technology allows us to offer this radio service to a large number of users yet keep each conversation private so that only radios in an individual group can hear and respond to radio calls. In addition, we can also allow private radio conversations within a particular group of radios. For example, let us assume a company has 8 radios on the system with one at the office and 7 more in the field. Normally we would program these radios so that when anyone of them makes a call, all of the radios would receive the conversation. In addition, we have the option of setting up one of the radios so that a supervisor could have a private conversation with the office that the other 6 radios in the field could not hear. (This is a completely optional feature that more than one radio could enjoy) Tower Location Our equipment is located on a tower ¼ mile southeast of Rocky Mount on Pleasant Hill Road. This central location allows us to offer excellent coverage across a large portion of Nash, Edgecombe, and Wilson counties. Generator Backup All of our paging and 2 Way Radio Systems are backed up by Emergency On Site Electricity Generators to make sure that they work even during power failures. In this area, we are all too familiar with the fall hurricane season. With this in mind, we have designed these systems to work for days without outside power. Monthly Airtime Charge The monthly charge per radio ranges from $10.00 to $15.00. (Price per radio depends on the total number of radios in use.) This monthly charge is for unlimited use per radio. Unlike cellular and some other systems, we do not round up to the next minute or care how much you talk. Use it as much as you like! As you can see, this is extremely competitive with cellular service. Especially when you consider that if they were cellular phones, you would have to pay twice for each call. (Once on the calling phone and once on the phone being call.) In addition cellular would be typically rounding up a 1 minute and 1 second call to a 2 minute charge. Compatible Radio Equipment Our E.F. Johnson SMR system is based on "open architecture". This means that any radio manufacturer can build radios designed to work on an E.F. Johnson SMR system. Our policy is to allow any radio dealer to sell radios to a customer that wishes to have them active on our SMR system. You need only to make sure that the radios you are buying are "LTR" compatible. The following is a partial listing of radio manufacturers that make "LTR" compatible radios: E.F. Johnson, Standard, Uniden, GE (Ericksson), Kenwood, and Motorola. Of course, Carolina Mobile Communications also sells LTR compatible radios and will be happy to sell radios directly to you.

System Features Our UHF Community Repeater System is a simpler and older technology than our SMR Trunking System. It is a simple, shared one frequency system for inexpensive two way communication. It is shared in the sense that only one user group at the time can carry on a two way radio conversation. The other user groups (companies) have to wait their turn to use the system until the first conversation is finished. It is therefore not private, and you must assume that your conversation is likely to be heard by the other user groups. Our policy is to allow any radio dealer to sell radios to a customer that wishes to have them active on our UHF Community Repeater. Of course, Carolina Mobile Communications also sells UHF Community Repeater radios and will be happy to sell radios directly to you. (There is usually an abundance of used surplus radios compatible with our system available in our area. If you are interested in saving some money, used radios are a reasonable way to go.) When people buy UHF radios instead of SMR radios, the usual reason is the price difference between the two systems’ radio equipment. You can usually save over $100.00 per radio by purchasing UHF radios instead of SMR radios.

For Keeping In Touch When….. Skiing... Cycling... Hunting... Fishing... Road Trips... Camping.... At the Mall.... Backpacking.... On The Farm These radios are primarily used for short range communication. The stated range for these types of radios is usually from 2 to 5 miles at the maximum. Only under perfect conditions are these maximum ranges likely to be achieved "in the field." You should probably expect to achieve about ½ of the maximum stated range. |
